New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) has scripted a new milestone in its placement history. A final-year computer science engineering student has secured a record-breaking annual package of Rs 2.5 crore, the highest ever in the institute's placement history.
Edward Nathan Varghese, 21-year-old final-year computer science engineering student, has received a staggering Rs 2.5 crore package from Optiver, a global trading firm based in the Netherlands. This IITian will join as a software engineer in July after successfully converting a two-month summer internship into a pre-placement offer. Interestingly, Edward was one of the only two students shortlisted for the internship. He will be receiving the final offer after successfully completing the training, along with a six-week project at the Optiver company.
The journey of Edward in getting shortlisted as a software engineer at Optiver is a mix of IIT tag, besides a strong emphasis on coding and competitive examinations. Edward Nathan Varghese didn't get the Rs 2.5 crore package easily. He stands tall in all the competitive entrance examinations, including All India Rank 1100 in JEE Main (June 2022), All India Rank 558 in JEE Advanced (2022). He got his seat at IIT Hyderabad with JEE Advanced results. This year, Edward also cracked the Common Admission Test (CAT) with an impressive 99.96th percentile and secured rank 120.
IIT Hyderabad is on cloud nine with the record-breaking offer of Edward, which comes in a year when another CSE student has bagged a Rs 1.1 crore package. In the IIT Hyderabad placement 2025-26 season, the average salary package shot up by 75 per cent from Rs 20.8 lakh in 2024 to Rs 36.2 lakh. This also includes a total of 24 international offers. While coming to IIT Hyderabad postgraduate placements, a total of 196 students out of 650 have been placed so far. The average package is Rs 22 lakh.
