Students planning a career in management after Class 12 can choose from several entrance exams such as IPMAT, JIPMAT, CUET-UG, NPAT and SET. These exams test aptitude skills and offer admission to BBA, BMS and integrated management programmes at IIMs and universities across India.

New Delhi: Students who have completed or are appearing for Class 12 and are seeking a career in business or management can opt from several entrance exams conducted at national, state and university levels. These exams offer admission to popular programmes such as Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Business Management (BMS) and five-year Integrated Management Programmes (IPM) at IIMs and leading universities.

Most business management entrance exams evaluate aptitude rather than textbook knowledge. Areas like quantitative ability, logical reasoning, English language skills and general awareness are common across exams. Each exam has its own pattern and selection method. To know more about these exams will help students make informed decisions and plan the preparation effectively.

IPMAT (IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak)

  • For admission to the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM)
  • Conducted by IIMs individually
  • The question paper includes quantitative and verbal ability
  • Candidates are selected based on a written test followed by a personal interview
  • Usually held in the month of May or June
  • Suitable for those aiming for an early start at IIMs

JIPMAT

  • Conducted by NTA for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya
  • For admission to the 5-year Integrated Management Programme
  • The questions in the exam includes quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and verbal ability
  • Selection is based on the entrance test score
  • Exam usually conducted in May or June

Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG)

  • Used for BBA or BMS admissions in central, state and private universities
  • The exam includes the language test, domain subjects and general test and will be held in computer-based test (CBT) mode
  • Conducted generally in April or May
  • The final selection generally include CUET score and Class 12 marks
  • Widely accepted by top universities including Delhi University

NMIMS-NPAT

  • Conducted by NMIMS University for admission to BBA and other undergraduate programmes
  • Candidates need to attempt questions from quantitative ability, reasoning and English language
  • Online exam with multiple test dates
  • Held between January and May
  • Selection is mainly based on the NPAT score

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

  • For admission to BBA programmes at Symbiosis institutes
  • The questions are from English, quantitative ability, logical reasoning and general awareness section
  • Conducted online usually in April or May
  • Some colleges may also conduct a personal interview or a written ability test

IPU CET (BBA)

  • Conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU)
  • For admission to BBA programmes in affiliated colleges
  • Candidates need to attempt questions from English, logical reasoning, general awareness and management aptitude
  • Usually conducted in the month of April or May
  • Selection is based on CET score and counselling process

AIMA UGAT

  • Conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA)
  • For BBA, BCA and Integrated Management courses
  • Exam sections include English, reasoning, numerical ability and general knowledge
  • The mode of the exam is paper-based or computer-based (varies by year)
  • Usually conducted in June
  • Accepted by several private and affiliated colleges

MAH BBA or BMS CET

  • State-level entrance exam for Maharashtra colleges for admission to BBA, BMS and BBM programmes
  • Exam tests aptitude, reasoning and English skills of the candidate
  • Conducted by the State CET Cell in April or early May
  • Admissions are done through centralised counselling

Most of these entrance exams are aptitude-based and the syllabus can be easily covered. Negative marking applies in some exams. The eligibility criteria usually require Class 12 in any stream. For the exams, candidates must start early preparation and attempt mock tests as it improves performance. For the exact date and time, candidates are advised to check the official notifications.
