New Delhi: This Friday (September 5) is the clash of three much-anticipated films, The Conjuring: Last Rites, Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, and Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files. While all three movies are of three different genres, all of them are certified ‘A'. Ahead of the releases, The Conjuring: Last Rites seems to be dominating the box office, especially due to the resonance of the popular franchise with Indian audiences.
On the other hand, Baaghi 4 is releasing in India in over 2,500 screens, The Bengal Files is receiving positive early reviews. To get an overview of how the three films are expected to perform at the Indian box office, TV9 English digital exclusively spoke to Girish Johar, producer and film business expert.
Speaking exclusively with TV9 English Digital, Girish Johar opined that The Conjuring: Last Rites is expected to perform better than The Bengal Files and Baaghi 4 at the Indian Box Office. According to him, The Conjuring will mint around Rs 7 crore on its opening day, while The Bengal Files will collect around Rs 4 to 5 crore, and Baaghi 4 will probably open somewhere around Rs 5 to 7 crore.
He told us, “We all understand Hollywood movies do have a limit, restrictions because of the genre, and this kind of storytelling has resonance with the Indian audience. Nonetheless, Conjuring is one of the most successful franchise, which has done exceptionally, specifically at the Indian box office. So, no two ways on thinking that it will not do well. It will surely do well.”
“And Bengal Files is also carrying a lot of strong traction. Whoever has seen the film across, in special shows in overseas markets and in the home market, they are raving about the film. So, when films like those also are built on word of mouth, though Friday may be slow for Bengal Files, but Saturday and Sunday, I'm pretty confident, things will turn around for the film. So, looking forward to, you know, a very good weekend at the box office.”
When asked about The Bengal Files controversy’s impact on the film’s collection, Johar shared, “The undercurrent of Bengal files is very strong. It has all the sparks and firework to outperform Kashmir files. I think the audiences first need to see the film and then decide on their own. The fact is that it is a part of history which most of the Indians are not aware of. So, I think that's what Vivek is trying to amplify and, you know, bring it out on light. Just be aware of our history. That's it. Nothing else.”
“So, I think that is what he is requesting all the audiences and everyone else. So, I am very firmly of the belief that if the film is liked by the audiences, which in this case Bengal files will have a very strong word of mouth. And from early screenings, the feedback is fantastic,” he added.
Girish Johar also talked about 23 cuts in Baaghi 4 and shared, “If you're showing something in the trailer that is not in the film, then definitely audiences do get dejected. Unless the story is extraordinary or the taking is extraordinary. Because once you've seen it in the trailer, you do want to watch it, you do get excited, and you want to watch it on the big screen. If it's not available on the big screen, then the audiences do, you know, step back. So, I really hope that it all boils down well for all the films.”
