Govinda-Sunita Ahuja headed for divorce: Actor accused of cheating, cruelty and desertion

New Delhi: Actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are heading for divorce. Sunita and Govinda’s lawyer were spotted at a family court in Mumbai on Thursday (August 22). According to Hauterfly’s report, Sunita has filed for divorce in the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024 under the sections of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 on the grounds of adultery, cruelty and desertion.

Rumours of Sunita and Govinda’s divorce have been doing rounds for quiet sometime now. The divorce rumours sparked after Sunita revealed that he and the actor live separately due to his talkative nature and work. However, Sunita has always denied divorce rumours.

According to Hauterfly report, the court summoned Govinda but he did not appear in the court until a show notice was issued to the actor in May 2025. Reportedly, the estranged couple are trying to work out things through the court-mandated counselling. While Sunita is appearing in the family court, Govinda seems to miss the hearings and is being attended by his lawyer.

Meanwhile, Sunita has filed for divorce six months ago. The celebrity couple are heading for divorce after 38 years of marriage. However, in an exclusive conversation with TV9 English, Govinda's manager Shashi Sinha said, "We all are working towards resolving the issue and both are being counselled and soon you will see them together. Don't know why people are blowing things out of proportion." Additionally, the actor's lawyer, Lalit Bindal stated that all issues have been ironed out.

Recently, she shared her first vlog from a temple where she broke down in tears and said, “Since childhood, when my mother used to take me to Mahalaxmi temple, I used to go with my mother. Mahalaxmi Mata is very dear to Mumbai, I used to go there since I was 8-9 years old. When I met Govinda, I started praying to Maa that I get married to him. Maa has fulfilled all my wishes. I got married, Mata Rani also gave me two good children.”

She further added, “I have so much faith in Maa that no matter who tries to break my house, I know that Maa Kali is sitting there. Whoever hurts me, this form of Maa Kali will slit everyone's throats. Because it is not a good thing to hurt a good person and a good woman.”

On the other hand, in February this year, several media reports claimed that Govinda and Sunita decided to part ways due to constant disagreements and varied lifestyles. It was also said that the actor’s growing closeness to a 30-year-old Marathi actress is one of the major reasons behind their split.
