New Delhi: Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, died on June 12 after reportedly due to a heart attack while he was playing polo in the UK. Reports indicated that a bee flew into his mouth during the match, triggering the heart attack. Now, in a fresh development, it has been reported that there’s an ongoing estate dispute.
However, the late businessman’s mother has now claimed foul play in his death and said that she holds the majority stake in the Sona Group an d is the rightful heir to the family’s estate. It has also been reported that actress Karisma Kapoor is seeking her share in the late husband’s property. However, an insider has denied the involvement of the actress in Sunjay Kapur's property or estate dispute.
According to Dainik Jagran report, actress Karisma Kapoor may also be seeking her share in Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore property. However, an insider cleared the air and told Times of India. "Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters. She has no claim, nor is she seeking any share in the estate. Her only concern is the well-being and future of her children.”
The source also confirmed that Sunjay and Karisma's children will get their inheritance. The insider added, “The children will receive what is due to them. Karisma’s focus remains entirely on them.”
Earlier, a report by Hindustan Times stated that Sunjay had invested Rs 14 crore in bonds for his and Karisma Kapoor’s children, with an annual interest payout of Rs 10 lakh.
In a statement, Sunjay Kapur’s mother Rani Kapur alleged that the reported cardiac arrest may not have been accurately described. Her legal counsel told ANI, “For my client, as a mother, it's deeply painful to watch this being dismissed as a mere freak accident and cardiac arrest. The truth doesn't match the headlines. She would not stay silent until that truth is acknowledged.” She also claimed that shortly after her son’s death, she was made to sign certain documents and was warned against the appointment of new directors.
Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar and was married to Karisma Kapur in 2003 and got divorced in 2016. The duo had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. After their divorce, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev and the couple has a son named Azarius.
