Mumbai: Actor Prakash Raj, who served as a jury member for the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, opined that the National Film Awards are compromised. He also claimed that they did not deserve an actor like Mammootty, who bagged the best actor award.

Speaking at a press conference to discuss the state award winners, the actor was asked about the chances of Mammootty receiving a National Award. It was at that point that he stated, "I don't mind saying that National Film Awards are compromised. I am so happy to be a jury chairman of Kerala because when they called me, they said we need an outsider who is experienced, and we will not poke our hands into it, and we will let you make the decision."

Further, he quipped that files and piles were being awarded at the national level.

"That is not happening in the National Awards, and we see it. When files and piles are getting awards! When such sort of a jury and such sort of a national government… they don't deserve Mammukka," said the actor.

Meanwhile, Mammootty has been awarded the National Awards multiple times in the Best Actor category. He has won awards for Mathilukal, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Ponthan Mada, Vidheyan, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. However, in recent times, many critics and fans of the actor have opined that he was being overlooked.

The actor was awarded the Kerala State Award for his brilliant performance in Bramayugam this year. The much-loved Manjummel Boys won the Best Film honour, and the Best Director award was awarded to Chidambaram.

Mammootty reacted to his win in his usual witty manner. When asked about his character's uniqueness in Bramayugam and competition from young actors, he stated, "It was a very different character and a different story. I think that is the reason why it won. This is a journey. There will be many who will accompany us on that journey. They are all friends in the journey who offer us strength. Let’s think of it that way. This is not a competition, right? It’s not a running relay.”
