New Delhi: The chilling real-life murder case of Indore-based businessman, Raja Raghuvanshi, is now being made into a movie. Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, causing ripples following the arrest of his wife Sonam and her lover.

The film is directed by SP Nimbawat and is tentatively titled, Honeymoon in Shillong. The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi sent shockwaves across the country. Now, the victim’s family has given their consent to share his story on the big screen and bring truth in front of the public.

Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother spoke exclusively to TV9 English Digital and said, “See, we have come here to make a film. Because we want the life of Raja Raghuvanshi to start from the end. We want to show everything from there. For Raja Raghuvanshi's honeymoon, we went to Shillong. We went to Shillong after Raja Raghuvanshi was killed. We wanted to show the truth. So, we have given consent. The main focus is on the life of Raja Raghuvanshi but, we have not signed the agreement yet.”

He further added, “My involvement is very simple. I want the story of my brother to run smoothly. In the movie, we want to show the story of Raja. How Raja was taken from here. How Raja got married. We want to show the betrayal in the marriage.”

The movie will focus on the events leading up to Raja’s death, the police investigation and the shocking arrests that followed. The director confirmed that the script is completed and filming will begin soon in Indore and some scenes will be shot in Meghalaya.

Raghuvanshi’s brother, Vipin, told reporters that they want to represent the correct image of Meghalaya through the film. According to the director, Raja Raghuvanshi faced a big betrayal after his marriage. SP Nimbawat stated, “Through our film, we want to give a message to the public that such incidents of betrayal should be stopped. 80 per cent of its shooting will be done in Indore and the remaining 20 per cent in different areas of Meghalaya.”

About the murder case

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam went on their honeymoon to Meghalaya in May. Days after he was reported missing, his body was found in a mutilated condition in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area in East Khasi Hills district. Police arrested eight people, including Raja’s wife Sonam and her suspected lover, Raj Kushwaha.
