Shilpa Shetty says she has no links to Raj Kundras company, Bombay HC asks to file affidavit
Shlipa Shetty's plea to cancel the lookout against her was denied by the Supreme Court. She told the court that she was not associated with her husband Raj Kundra's company.
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court once again refused to grant relief to Shilpa Shetty after she requested the cancellation of a lookout notice issued against her by the Economic Offences Wing in the Rs 60 crore fraud case, involving her husband Raj Kundra.
The actress told the court that she has no connection to Kundra's company. She also stated that she just a nominal director. The division bench consisting of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad denied her plea and asked her to provide a government witness.
Further, the court also asked the actress to submit a written affidavit by the 16th of October. "If you say you have no connection with the company, get your husband Raj Kundra to sign an affidavit to this effect," said the division bench. They also asked pay Rs 60 crore.
The couple had filed a petition to cancel the lookout circular to make international travel possible. However, the court stated that it could not be permitted as they were both accused in a cheating case.
What is the Rs 60 crore fraud case?
As per the complaint, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, who are the directors of now-defunct Best Deal TV Private Limited, defrauded businessman Deepak Kothari in a loan-cum-investment worth Rs 60 crore deal between 2015 and 2023. Kothari accused the couple of encouraging him to invest the amount in the company. According to him, they later used the money for their personal use.
When questioned, Raj Kundra stated that household and electrical appliances company suffered massive losses after demonetisation. Consequently, he wasn't able to return the funds that were borrowed. Since the complaint was registered, he was questioned two times. Meanwhile, the actress had a questioning session that lasted over four hours.
