Ronit Roy is now one of the most successful personalities in the Indian showbiz arena. He not only works in films and TV shows but also earns big through his security agency. But did you know Ronit was once addicted to alcohol?
New Delhi: Ronit Roy is one of the finest Indian actors who has showcased his prowess both on television and the silver screen. The 59-year-old hunk caught the attention of the audience with his very first film. His debut movie, Jaan Tere Naam, released in the year 1992, was well received by viewers. Following the initial success, he appeared in the flick Bombay Blast in 1993. The Deepak Balraj Vij directorial also proved effective in garnering the love of the audience.
According to TV9 Hindi, despite emerging triumphant during the early days of his cinematic journey, Ronit struggled to find work. He then became addicted to alcohol and did not even have money to eat.
After working in films, Ronit had to turn to television out of compulsion and necessity. But with sheer hard work and dedication, the tables turned. And now, after so many years, he is also running a security agency, apart from having a successful career in the showbiz arena.
In March 2025, during the Podcast Red Carpet on YouTube, Ronit opened up about why he ventured into entrepreneurship with a security agency and also spilled the beans on alcohol addiction.
You will be amazed to know that Ronit handsomely earns big moolah by running a security agency (Ace Security and Services). His company has provided services to many A-list stars of the Hindi film industry. It has handled the security of bigwigs, including Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Aamir Khan, and Katrina Kaif. Ronit was quoted as saying, "I am an honest kind of man. I can only tell you how it was. It was the result of hunger and poverty. Whatever big steps I have taken in my life have been taken after disappointment, frustration, and poverty."
Further into the conversation, Ronit also recalled his old days in the film world. He added, "My first film was a silver jubilee. Despite that fact, I did not get to work. I was disappointed. In today's time, a silver jubilee means giving a film worth Rs 100 to 150 crores. Even after that kind of film, I did not get a job. I was scared because I had to pay the rent. I had to feed myself."
How Ronit Roy turned to alcohol
In the frustration of not getting work done, Ronit turned to alcohol. He admitted that his alcohol addiction ruined him. Ronit further said, "My alcohol addiction started because of frustration. After that, everything went wrong. My life was ruined. Somehow, I would get alcohol. I don't know where the alcohol came from."
Ronit then started drinking heavily. He neither saw the night nor the day, and was always intoxicated with alcohol. This was the time when the chatter in the industry said that Ronit was over.
After not getting work in Bollywood, Ronit stepped into the TV industry and made a name for himself by working in shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Bandini. Later, while returning to Bollywood, he also worked in films like Shootout at Wadala, Student of the Year, Kaabil, Thugs of Hindostan, Loveyatri, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
