Actress Nandini Kashyap detained in fatal hit-and-run case, sent to police custody
Assamese actress and theatre artist Nandini Kashyap has been detained by Guwahati Police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 21-year-old Samiul Haque. Haque succumbed to injuries after battling for five days, first at Guwahati Medical College and later at a private hospital. He was struck by a speeding Bolero Neo SUV, reportedly driven by Kashyap, around 3:00 am on July 25.
New Delhi: Assamese actress and theatre artist Nandini Kashyap has been detained by Guwahati Police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 21-year-old Samiul Haque, a student of Nalbari Polytechnic. The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 25 near Kahilipara.
According to reports, Kashyap was detained from a rehearsal venue of Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati on Tuesday evening and brought to the All Women Police Station, Panbazar. Her detention falls under Dispur Police Station case number 630/2025, registered under sections 115(1), 281 and 125(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). There has been no official confirmation about her arrest. She is being interrogated and may be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate shortly.
Student bodies demand arrest of actress
Samiul Haque, described as a diligent student and family breadwinner, succumbed to injuries after battling for five days, first at Guwahati Medical College and later at a private hospital. He was struck by a speeding Bolero Neo SUV, reportedly driven by Kashyap, around 3:00 am on July 25.
The All Assam Polytechnic Students Union (AAPSU) has filed an FIR demanding the actress's immediate arrest. In response to the controversy, Rajdhani Theatre announced the termination of Kashyap's two-year contract. In an official statement, the production house said that the decision was made to ensure that the theatre's ongoing activities remain unaffected by negative publicity surrounding the incident.
Probe underway, legal proceedings to be initiated
Actor Ravi Sharma who starred alongside Kashyap in a recent film 'Rudra', said on social media, "The news of Samiul Haque's death has left me heartbroken. I pray that his soul rests in peace."
Police have confirmed that they are reviewing CCTV footage and forensic evidence for examining the incident. However, there has been no official confirmation from the authorities on whether Kashyap was driving the vehicle. Legal proceedings against the actress are to be initiated.
