New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday said in a statement that the airline, along with others, was affected by a third-party system glitch at several airports, which led to delays.
Air India said that it was restoring the system and there may be delays regarding some flights until the situation becomes normal. It issued a statement in which the airline said, "A third-party system disruption has been affecting check-in systems at various airports, resulting in delays across multiple airlines, including Air India."
It added, "Our airport teams are working diligently to ensure a smooth check-in experience for all passengers. While the system is progressively getting restored, some of our flights may continue to experience delays until the situation fully normalises. We request passengers to check their flight status."
A technical snag derailed flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around a month back as the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system was affected. It delayed over 800 flights, and according to an India Today report, it affected the Automatic Message Switching System.
Meanwhile, an IndiGo flight from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday morning after authorities at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport received a bomb threat email. Security and bomb disposal teams reached the Mumbai airport after the Hyderabad-bound flight made an emergency landing. All the passengers were evacuated safely.
Officials at the Hyderabad airport received the bomb threat mail for the IndiGo flight, following which the airport officials alerted the authorities, and the flight 6E-1234 was diverted to Mumbai.
