Andhra Pradesh: Nursing student jumps to death from college building, family blames varsity
A 19-year-old college student jumped off the fourth floor of her hostel in Chittoor on Thursday evening. She was rushed to a hospital, but died during treatment. The police are currently treating it as a suicide case, but investigations are being done from all angles. Her parents have argued that the college authorities showed lack of support and oversight for their daughter, who the college officials said was mentally distressed.
New Delhi: In a shocking death reported from Andhra Pradesh, a 19-year-old girl jumped off her hostel building. The nursing student in Chittoor district died on Friday morning after she jumped off the fourth floor of her hostel. The victim was identified as Pallavi, who was a Bachelor of Science (BSc) nursing student at the PES College in Kuppam.
Student was mentally distressed: Officials
According to a report in NDTV, officials of her college said that Pallavi was mentally disturbed for a few days. She jumped off the college hostel building on Thursday evening. Other students and college officials rushed to help her as soon as they heard a loud sound and some saw her falling.
The woman was moved to a hospital immediately. She died on Friday morning.
Reacting to her death, her family members blamed college authorities. They said that the college showed lack of oversight and support.
The police have registered a case of suspected suicide and started an investigation in the matter. As news of her death spread, panic gripped the college campus. Parents of the students started questioning their children's safety on the campus.
Earlier 2 college students of Sreenivasa Institute of Technology and Management Studies, also in Chitoor district attempted suicide earlier this month. While one died, another was admitted to a hospital in a critical state. Another suicide death was reported from Srikakulam district.
Apart from college students, deaths by suicide has increased among young school-going students as well. Recently, a 9-year-old girl studying in a private school in Jaipur, jumped off her school building and killed herself. The child was reportedly distressed over repeated teasing by fellow classmates and was not helped by teachers, despite approaching them multiple times.
Ap[art from this, a 16-year-old boy in Delhi jumped off the Rajendra Place Metro station in Delhi and killed himself. He also blamed his teachers for his death. In the suicide note recovered by the police, the boy named 2 of his teachers and said that he was being mentally tortured by them. Amidst rising public outcry, the school suspended 4 teachers in the matter. Investigations are currently on in the case.
