India’s longest glass skywalk bridge opens in Kailasagiri hilltop in Visakhapatnam: A look at key features

The bridge built at a cost of Rs 7 crore, is designed along the lines of Vagamon glass bridge in Kerala.

Visakhapatnam: The 50-metre Cantilever skywalk glass bridge, India’s longest on Kailasagiri hilltop in Vizag was inaugurated by MP Bharat Mathukumilli and Mayor Pila Srinivas Rao on Monday, December 1.

Built with German-imported glass and steel, the bridge is 862 feet above ground and 1,000 feet above sea level. It has a triple-layered, 40-mm tempered laminated glass treated to withstand adverse climactic conditions.

The bridge built at a cost of Rs 7 crore, is designed along the lines of Vagamon glass bridge in Kerala.

MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishnababu and VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal also participated in the program. Speaking on the occasion, Pranav Gopal said that tourism is being given a big boost through VMRDA and that Visakhapatnam will be developed as a tourist capital.

"We have designed a glass bridge to withstand natural disasters and it can withstand winds of 250 km per hour. It can carry a weight of 500 tons at a time and 20 tourists can climb on it at a time and view the beauty of nature,” he said.

Project built under PPP model:

The project has been executed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and was a collaboration between Visakhapatnam Region Development Authority (VRDA) and RJ Adventures – of SSM Shipping logistics and Bharat Mata Ventures Pvt Ltd.

The bridge can hold up to 20 people at a time and tickets are priced at Rs 300 per head for entry for a 10-15 minute walk.
