Man attacks, injures pregnant woman while celebrating ex-CM’s birthday; arrested
Sathya Sai District Police have arrested and paraded a man who reportedly attacked and injured a pregnant woman in Muthyalavari Palli village of Tanakallu Mandal of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, December 23.
Kadiri DSP Shiva Narayana Swamy said that there is no tolerance for atrocities against women and that strict action will be taken against those who commit atrocities. He identified the accused as P Ajaya Deva, 25, who is a YSR Congress party worker.
Neighbours object to fire crackers, noise:
Police said that the accused and another YCP worker Anjinappa, were bursting crackers on the occasion of YCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday, which angered the neighbours.
P Sandhya Rani, 29, who is six months pregnant, objected to the noise and asked them to move elsewhere when Ajay clashed with them, caught the woman by the neck and kicked her in the stomach.
After the incident, the police paraded the accused from the RTC bus circle to the rural police station in full public view in Kadiri town, Sri Sathya Sai district. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The police department said that the takes crimes against children and women with utmost seriousness.
YSRCP voices safety concerns for women:
This comes shortly after the opposition party in AP alleged that the state is increasingly becoming unsafe for women under the coalition government of TDP-JSP-BJP.
