Tirupati: Forest department captures leopard at SV University

Forest department succeeded in capturing a leopard at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati on Monday, August 18 morning, tv9 telugu reported.

Later, the leopard was shifted to the nearby SV Zoo Park, forest officials said. However, due to the high number of leopards sightings, forest officials have set up three cages at the varsity and trap cameras.

University staff informed forest department officials that the leopard attacked dogs and killed deer on campus, causing panic among the students.

Recently, passengers on a bike narrowly escaped a leopard attack on Alipiri Zoo Park Road, a video showed. Two wheeler riders feared using the SV Zoo Park Road, which borders dense forest areas.

The capture comes after five sightings of the leopard over the last three months along the Tirupati forest hill stretch beneath Tirumala Hills. Two other sightings occurred at Annamayya Bhavan in Tirumala.

Meanwhile, a leopard attacked a three-year-old tribal girl in the remote Chinnarutla Chenchu hamlet, Dornakal mandal of Prakasam district on August 14. The 3-year-old toddler was admitted to the hospital, where she is recovering.
