'Beacon of eternal divinity': PM Modi offers prayers at Somnath Jyotirlinga, attends Swabhiman Parv events

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers at the Somnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and participated in events marking the Somnath Swabhiman Parv. The event is being held from January 8 to 11.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Somnath stands as a beacon of eternal divinity. Its sacred presence continues to guide people across generations. He also shared highlights from the programmes held at the temple, including the Omkar Mantra chanting and a drone show.

According to reports, the Prime Minister took part in a laser light and cultural programme at the Somnath temple complex. He said the drone show showcased a blend of ancient faith and modern technology, describing it as a reflection of India's cultural strength. An official statement said around 3,000 drones were used for the display.

During the event, Modi spoke about the spiritual significance of Om, calling it the essence of the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas and Vedanta, and the foundation of meditation and yoga. He said he participated in the collective chanting of Omkar Naad for 1,000 seconds during the festival.

PM says privilege to be in Somnath

The Prime Minister said it was a privilege to be in Somnath, which he described as a symbol of the resilience of India's civilisation. He noted that the Swabhiman Parv is being observed as the country marks 1,000 years since the first attack on the Somnath temple in 1026, and thanked the people for the warm welcome.

The Somnath Swabhiman Parv includes cultural, spiritual and commemorative programmes over four days.
