Bihar: Ropeway collapses during trial run in Rohtas, no casualties
An under construction ropeway in Bihar's Rohtas collapsed on Saturday. The accident occurred during a trial run. Fortunately there were no injuries or deaths in the incident. A senior engineer, working with the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited, which is responsible for the construction of the ropeway said that an enquiry has been ordered in the matter and a team from Kolkata was coming to inspect the crash site and also the ropeway.
New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident reported from Bihar, a newly constructed ropeway collapsed on Saturday. The incident happened during the trial run of the ropeway built in Rohtas district of the state. Officials from the state confirmed the accident.
No casualties: Bihar officials
Bihar officials said that fortunately there were no casualties due to the accident. The incident happened when the ropeway from Rohtas block to Rohtasgarh Fort and Rohiteshwar Dham, along with an attached tower collapsed suddenly.
The workers present at the site were trying out a trial run of the ropeway, when suddenly the wires snapped and the trolleys fell from a height. At least 4 trolleys of the ropeway were damaged in the incident. A tower attached to the ropeway was also damaged in the accident.
Fortunately however the workers present at the site were not harmed. They managed to save themselves in the nick of time, said officials.
This accident however raised serious questions about the quality of the material used in the construction of the ropeway. It has raised serious questions about the infrastructure in the state and brought shame for the government.
Khursheed Karim, senior engineer of the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited, was quoted by NDTV as saying, "Trial and testing work is underway. While increasing the load, a wire got stuck leading to the damage." He said that a lot of work on the ropeway is still pending and needs to be done at the earliest.
According toKarim, a team of experts from Kolkata will come and carry out a detailed investigation into the accident that has occurred at the site. He said that the ropeway will not be opened for public use, until it is ensured that it is fully safe.
