Bizarre: Flyover cuts through house balcony in Nagpur, NHAI claims encroachment
In a strange event, a flyover was built passing through a residential building in Nagpur. The NHAI said that the building has been made on an encroached land and that they have complained to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The house owner however claimed that the flyover was just passing through the building and not touching it. He claimed that he did not have any problem with the flyover passing through his house.
New Delhi: In a bizarre event that unfolded in Nagpur, an under-construction flyover was seen touching a balcony. Photos and videos of the said flyover/road are now going viral on social media, inviting ridicule from netizens. The construction of the flyover has certainly raised questions regarding the urban planning in the city.
Balcony falls under encroached area: NHAI
Following outrage over the flyover, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) responded to the bizarre design. An official from NHAI was quoted a s saying that the balcony of the house falls under an encroached area and that they have contacted the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to get it removed.
The house owner meanwhile has dismissed all allegations of encroachment. He claimed that one beam of the flyover was indeed passing through the building, but not touching it and hence was not a safety concern.
Videos on social media show a part of the flyover going right past the balcony of the building, located in Ashok Square in Nagpur. The flyover is still under construction.
The house owner said that the flyover passes through a part of the building which is no-man's land. He claimed that the road was just passing through and not touching the building and it was just passing through a part, which is of no use to the residents of the house. The house owner explained that the road was some 14-15 feet above the balcony and that he has no issues with it.
The NHAI claimed that a flange portion of the rotary beam is passing through the balcony. He said that the reason for this was that the balcony falls in an encroached area and the Highways Authority is not at fault here. The official added that the encroachment will be removed soon.
Meanwhile an official from NMC said that the building was given on lease for a certain period to the house owner. They are investigating if the lease time is over and if that is so, the building will be vacated, he added.
