Income Tax Bill passed in Lok Sabha

The Income-Tax Bill, 2025 seeks to consolidate and amend the law relating to Income Tax Act 1961 while the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will amend the Income-tax Act, 1961 as well as the Finance Act, 2025.

These Bills, introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, were passed without any debate amid vociferous protest by member of Opposition over revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

After the passage of these bills by voice vote, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day.

2 minors drown in quarry pit near Madurai

In a tragic incident, 2 children drown in a quarry pit filled with water on Sunday. The victims were identified as Ashiq Raja (3), son of Sultan Khan from Pandian Kottai, and his cousin Syeda Ali Sahana (9), as per the reports. 

Initial investigations reveal, Raja slipped into the water, to save him Sahana jumped in and the two drowned in the pit. The bodies were subsequently sent for post mortem examination.

4 children, 2 adults killed when fire rips through house in Maryland

A fire ripped through a house at Charles County in Maryland on Sunday, killing four children and two adults, authorities said. One person managed to escape the blaze reported around 8.40 am at the home in Waldorf, about 88 kilometres south of Baltimore, WTOP-TV reported.It took about 70 firefighters more than an hour to control the flames. One firefighter was hospitalised and another first responder was treated at the scene for unspecified injuries.
