On Union Budget 2026 expectations, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission CEO Sanjeev Kumar Gupta says, "My expectation is particularly in three areas. First, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and MSMEs. MSMEs in these cities contribute around $1.5 trillion USD, growing at a CAGR of 10%. If we find out ways where technology can play an important role in MSME, this CAGR can go up to 15 to 18%,potentially contributing $4 trillion USD to GDP and providing 900 million jobs, up from 300 million... Second, special Digital Economy Zones are necessary... Metropolitan cities are doing well, and programs like 'Beyond Bangalore' have seen success in places like Mysore, Mangalore, and Hubli-Belgaum. It's time for each state to identify 3-4 locations for these zones, with land provided by state governments and tax benefits from the central government... Third, a talent fund should be created, driven by the industry. This fund should focus on emerging technological skills required both nationally and globally... It should be managed by the industry and allocated for training in these skills across India... For startups, increasing the number of startups in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to 5 lakh could create 50 million job opportunities, with startups generating significant revenue, potentially contributing Rs 75,000 crore to the economy..."
