Breaking News Live Updates, December 26, 2025: A court in Russia on Thursday convicted a pro-war activist and critic of President Vladimir Putin of justifying terrorism and sentenced him to six years in prison. Sergei Udaltsov, the leader of the Left Front movement that opposes Putin and is affiliated with the Communist Party, was arrested last year. According to Russian independent news site Mediazona, the charges against him stem from an article Udaltsov posted online in support of another group of Russian activists accused of forming a terrorist organisation. Those activists were convicted earlier this month and handed sentences ranging from 16 to 22 years in prison.

The Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh has been completed, according to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
As part of the revision process, the names of approximately 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the state’s electoral rolls. The final official figures are scheduled to be released on January 31.
Officials said the data released so far is provisional and minor changes may be made in the final numbers.
Two members of former gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli’s family have filed their nominations for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
Gawli’s daughters, Geeta Gawli and Yogita Gawli, are contesting from wards 212 and 207 respectively, both located in the Byculla area.
Arun Gawli, who later entered politics, had spent several years in prison in connection with a murder case. During his incarceration, his daughters carried forward his political legacy under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena (All India Army).
With Gawli now out of prison, attention is on the level of support he and his party will receive in the Byculla and Madanpura areas. Gawli has stated that he will contest the elections independently and will not enter into an alliance with any political party.

A fire broke out at an e-rickshaw charging station in Delhi's Bindapur area on Friday, an official of the Delhi Fire Services said. The DFS received a call about the blaze at 10.57 am and rushed two fire tenders to the spot, he said. "The fire was brought under control and completely doused within a short time, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas," the officer said.

Two people of a family died while four others were seriously injured after their car crashed into a tree on the outskirts of the city, police said on Friday. The deceased were identified as Harish Sastry (39) and his father Veerabhadra (80), they said.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 6 pm on December 25 at Thotagere Cross in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district when the family was returning home after visiting their village.

Four persons associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal were arrested on Thursday for vandalising decorative items used for Christmas celebrations at a school and damaging festive articles in shops in Assam’s Nalbari district, police said. The incident took place on Wednesday when the accused allegedly entered St Mary’s School at Panigaon village within Belsor police station limits and burnt and damaged decorative items meant for Christmas celebrations.
"Miscreants who vandalised the school have been arrested. They entered the premises unlawfully," a senior official said.
A man was stabbed to death in northeast Delhi's Welcome area, officials said on Friday. A police team immediately rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident late Thursday evening, they said, adding that the man was found lying injured. He was promptly shifted to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead, police said.
