New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved 4 multi-tracking projects. These projects are to come up in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand and are worth Rs 11,169 crores.
An official statement said that the projects are for increasing the country's Railway network. The existing network of Railways will be increased by 574 kilometres, it said. The project is expected to be completed by 2028-29.
The projects include setting up essential routes for transportation of items like coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agriculture commodities and petroleum products. The increase in the Railway Network will help in 95.91 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) incremental freight loading, according to the government.
The projects which are to come up include, the Itarsi – Nagpur 4th Line, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) - Parbhani Doubling, Aluabari Road- New Jalpaiguri 3rd and 4th Line, and the Dangoaposi- Jaroli 3rd and 4th Line.
The increase in the number of lines/railway network will significantly increase mobility, thus improving operational efficiency and service reliability of the Indian Railways.
