New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the bomb blast that occured outside the Lal Quila metro station on November 10, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested 1 close aide of the suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi. The man identified as Amir Rashid Ali, hails from Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the anti-terror agency, they arrested Ali from Delhi. He allegedly conspired with the suicide bomber to carry out the blast in Delhi. The blast left 13 people dead and left 32 injured.
It was Ali's car which was involved in the blast, said the NIA. The agency had launched a massive search operation after taking over the blast case from the Delhi Police. The agency in a statement said that Ali, a resident of Samboora , Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, had conspired with the alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, to unleash the terror attack. Amir had come to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car which was eventually used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to trigger the blast.
A forensic team had established the identity of the suicide bomber as being Dr Nabi. The Pulwama resident was working as a District and Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department in Al Falah University at Faridabad.
Investigators have also recovered another vehicle belonging to Nabi. It is currently being examined by the investigating team for any further evidence in the case. So far 73 people have been questioned in the bomb blast case, which rocked the national capital on November 10.
NIA is working in close coordination with the Delhi Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, the Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police and several other security agencies to unearth other larger conspiracies in the case.
Three other doctors, identified as Dr Mujammil Shakeel, Dr Adil Ahmad Rather and Dr Saheena Saeed, have also been arrested in the matter. They were allegedly involved in storing huge amounts of explosives which were in all likelihood used in the blast at the Lal Quila Metro Station. The explosives were found in Faridabad, close to Delhi.
