Hospital choice explained

According to the statement of Gulfam, the driver of a Porter van, bystanders placed the injured couple into his vehicle. A woman then sat in the front seat and instructed him to head to a hospital in Azadpur. When asked why she chose not to take the victims to the nearest medical facility, Gaganpreet responded that she panicked and only knew of that particular hospital, where her children had been admitted during the Covid pandemic.

Police said she assists her husband in the family business of cloth-based horse saddles. Her blood test report, meant to confirm or rule out allegations of intoxication at the time of the crash, is still awaited.

BMW accident

The accident on Sunday claimed the life of Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, when a speeding blue BMW collided with his motorcycle near Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, survived the crash but suffered multiple fractures and head injuries.

Following the accident, both victims were transported to a hospital in GTB Nagar in a delivery van. The accused, who was also injured in the crash, accompanied them and instructed the driver to take the couple to a hospital nearly 19 kilometres away from the scene.

The van driver, Mohammad Gulfam, explained that he simply acted on instinct. “I was coming from the other side when I saw the accident. I stopped my car, put them inside, and drove them to New Life Hospital in Azadpur. After about half an hour, I went home. At that time, I did what I felt was right. It was those people themselves who asked me to take them to the hospital,” he said. Police later confirmed, however, that it was the accused who directed him to that particular facility.

The driver of the BMW, Gaganpreet Kaur, and her husband, both residents of Gurugram, were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment. Authorities have seized both the luxury car and the motorcycle involved, while a forensic team has examined the accident site to collect evidence.
