New Delhi: The woman driver of the BMW car which hit and killed Navjot Singh and left his wife injured has now been arrested. The accident happened on Sunday near the Delhi Cantonment metro station. The deceased was working with the Ministry of Finance in the national capital.
While Navjot died in the accident, his wife is undergoing treatment at a hospital. According to an FIR filed in the case, the man was taken to a hospital which was 19 kilometres away from the accident site. The reason for this was that the hospital was co-owned by Ganganpreet's family. Her father is among the 3 co-owners of the Nulife Hospital, where the victim was taken.
The driver of the car has now been discharged from the hospital and arrested, according to the latest reports.
According to the cab driver who took the couple to the hospital, he heard Gaganpreet talking to someone over the phone and instructing him to keep beds ready. According to a report in NDTV, the cab driver had rushed in to help the couple and then Gaganpreet also got into the car and instructed him to drive to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, which was 19 kilometres away from the accident spot. The driver said that he did not know the area where the accident took place and therefore did not take the man to a nearby hospital. He said that he did as instructed. It took half an hour to reach the GTB Nagar hospital, said the cab driver.
The FIR said, Navjot's wife, Sandeep Kaur had requested that she and her husband be moved to a nearby hospital. But Gaganpreet did not pay any heed to her request. The couple's son, Navnoor Singh, said that had his father been moved to a nearby hospital, he would have survived.
Navnoor said that a family friend called up to inform about his parents' accident. He said that when he reached the hospital in GTB Nagar, he found something amiss. He said that admitting them to GTB Nagar Hospital did not make sense as the accident happened in Dhaula Kuan. He further alleged that he got to know that the woman driver of the BMW was also admitted to the hospital and the doctor treating her was allegedly making a fake medico-legal certificate in her name.
According to a hospital representative Navjot was brought dead to the hospital. The couple (Navjot and Sandeep Kaur) were returning home after visiting the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in Central Delhi on their 2-wheeler when the accident happened.
