New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Saturday busted an arms smuggling racket. This module was involved in supplying high-end arms, made in foreign countries like China and Turkey, to India. The trade was facilitated through Pakistan, said officials.
A report in NDTV, quoted police officials as saying that Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI was involved in this smuggling racket. They said that it was the ISI which helped facilitate the entry of illegal weapons into India, via the international border.
The police have arrested 4 members of the gang and recovered 10 high-end pistols and 92 live cartridges from them. These weapons were reportedly being supplied to criminals across Delhi-NCR and also in other neighbouring states, like Haryana.
The police are now investigating how many other gang members were or are active in India. They are also trying to determine the number of weapons they sold and to whom were these sold. The police are investigating the other members of this gang, who were named by those arrested. Their bank account details, mobile phones and social media are being continuously tracked.
Recently Delhi was hit by a bomb blast, which occurred near the Lal Quila Metro station. The agencies are on high alert ever since the November 10 blast, which killed 13 people and left several others injured.
In this incident a suicide bomber blew up a Hyundai i20 car on a busy stree. The bomber was later identified as a doctor, who hailed from Jammu and Kashmir. His name was Umar un Nabi. Just hours before this blast, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had uncovered a terror module, later termed the Faridabad terror module, in which several white collar employees were involved in terror activities. At least 3 doctors have been arrested in the case so far. They were affiliated to the Pakistan-based terror outfits, Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
At least 2,900 kg of explosives were seized from Faridabad near Delhi, following the arrests. But the police still failed to prevent the blast in the national capital.
