DRDO successfully conducts salvo launch of Pralay missiles | Key features of deadly projectile
India successfully conducted a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles from the same launcher off the Odisha coast as part of user evaluation trials, demonstrating the system's reliability and readiness for induction.
New Delhi: India on Tuesday successfully carried out a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles in rapid succession from the same launcher off the Odisha coast, marking a key milestone in user evaluation trials. The launches were conducted at around 10:30 am on December 31, 2025, demonstrating the system’s operational reliability and readiness.
According to the Defence Research & Development Organisation, both missiles followed their planned trajectories and achieved all mission objectives. Tracking data from sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, confirmed the performance, while onboard ship-based telemetry systems verified terminal events near the designated impact points.
Successful salvo launch validated performance
The back-to-back launch from a single launcher showcased the missile’s ability to operate under combat-like conditions. Defence officials said the trial confirmed the system’s accuracy, stability and consistency, a crucial requirement for operational deployment during high-intensity scenarios.
About the Pralay missile system
Pralay is an indigenously developed, solid-fuel, quasi-ballistic missile equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision. The missile can carry different types of warheads, enabling it to strike a wide range of targets with flexibility and accuracy.
Collaborative development across DRDO ecosystem
The missile has been developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in coordination with several DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, and others. Production and system integration for the trials were carried out by development-cum-production partners Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, with support from Indian industry.
Senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, and industry officials were present during the trials.
Leadership reacts to successful trials
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, defence public sector undertakings and industry partners, stating that the successful salvo launch has firmly established the missile’s reliability.
Meanwhile, Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, said the achievement indicates that the Pralay missile system is nearing induction into the armed forces.
