Drunk clinic owner in UP fatally operates on woman after following YouTube tutorial

New Delhi: One should learn medical science from the internet, since it spells trouble more often than not. In Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki, a woman passed away after an illegal clinic's owner and his nephew reportedly operated on her by following a YouTube video tutorial. The police said that the owner did not have valid authorisation to run the clinic.

The woman has been identified as Munishra Rawat, and she was suffering from an ailment that suspected to be stemming from stones. On December 5, her husband Tehbahadur Rawat took her to Kothi's Shri Damodar Aushdhalaya for treatment.

There, the clinic operator, Gyan Prakash Mishra, allegedly informed the husband that an operation was needed to remove the stones, which, in his opinion, was causing the pain in the abdomen. He told the estimated cost to be Rs 25,000, and the husband deposited Rs 20,000 before the surgery.

The husband, who has filed a complaint, has said that Mishra was drunk when he began to operate on his wife after watching a YouTube video. Mishra allegedly made a deep cut in his wife's abdomen, rupturing several veins. He was helped in the procedure by his nephew, Vivek Kumar Mishra. Munishra passed away on the evening of December 6, the day after the operation.

Police said the nephew works for an ayurvedic hospital in Raebareli. His government job was used as a guise to run the illegal clinic for several years, and it has been sealed following the incident. The police have registered a case against Mishra and his nephew under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and are trying to put the accused behind bars.
