A Gen Z employee refused to work extra hours. She took to social media to explain the incident. The woman claimed that her reporting manager asked her to stay back to complete some work after her usual working hours.
New Delhi: A Gen Z employee went viral on social media for calling out the 'toxicity' at her workplace. The woman, identified as Shatakshi Pandey, claimed she was asked to work extra hours by her manager. However, she refused and later shared a video explaining the incident to netizens.
Taking to Instagram, Pandey stated, "Dear Gen X and Y, stop glorifying toxicity in the name of hard work.” She said that her reporting manager stopped her from leaving the office on time. Pandey recollected, "I was leaving for home from the office, and my reporting manager told me, ‘There’s a bit more work, Shatakshi, I’m assigning it to you.’ I told him, ‘No, sir, I need to leave on time today’.”

Pandey also confirmed that she was leaving on time and not early. In response to Pandey's answer, her reporting manager said, "You know what? I was on a train last night, reached at 7 in the morning, came to the office by 7:30 am, and I’m still here at 6:30 pm in the evening. Fine, you’ve given your time, you can go home."
The Instagram user went on to add, "A person works to earn two meals a day, but if they can’t eat them in peace, what’s the point?" She concluded the video by stating that she does not mind getting fired. However, she was not going to encourage such behaviours.
The video quickly garnered the interest of many. While many lauded her for being straightforward, others had a different take on the topic. One wrote, "Finally, Gen Z will save the world.” Another person opined that jobs sometimes extended beyond working hours. They added that the duty of the employees was to get the necessary things done and not just complete 9 or 10 hours of being in their workplaces.
