Faridabad explosives haul: Now, woman doctor under radar - What we know so far

The police investigating the recovery of explosives, from Haryana's Faridabad are now looking for a woman doctor who used to work in the same hospital as one of the accused, Dr Mujammil Shakeel. The woman is under the scanner after guns and ammunitions were recovered from her car. Dr Shakeel was arrested earlier, for allegedly hoarding huge amount of explosives in a rented house in Dhoj.

New Delhi: Fresh details have emerged in the case involving recovery of explosives from Faridabad in Haryana. The car from which investigators recovered an assault rifle, a pistol, and ammunition, belongs to a woman doctor, working with Dr Mujammil Shakeel. Shakeel is one of the accused in the case who has been arrested. He used to work at a hospital in Faridabad.

Latest developments in the case

- After the cops questioned Shakeel, they managed to recover the guns and ammunition from a Maruti Suzuki Swift. The car is registered in Faridabad, it has a number plate beginning with the code HR. Following the doctor's questioning, investigators also managed to recover 350 kg of explosive material. This is suspected to be ammonium nitrate. They also recovered 20 timers and other suspicious items.

Shakeel was employed as a senior doctor in Faridabad's Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences & Research Centre. He used to stay on the campus, but also had a rented accommodation in Dhoj. He was arrested 10 days back, after police got intelligence inputs about his suspicious activities.

The police also recovered 12 suitcases from the rented house of Shakeel, which were all filled with explosives. The material was most likely ammonium nitrate. The operation was carried out jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Haryana Police. Apart from explosives, investigators also found an AK-74 assault rifle, magazines, 83 live rounds, a pistol, 8 live rounds, 2 empty cartridges, and 2 additional magazines from the car. In total the police have recovered 2900 kgs of explosives and other materials, like inflammable material, electronic circuits, batteries, wires, remote control, timers and metal sheets etc in this case. 

- The police also revealed that the accused Shakeel had taken another house on rent, in Fatehpur Taga village. This plce is 4 kilometres away from Dhoj. The house belongs to a Muslim preacher (maulana) who had rented it to the doctor. He has now been arrested. 

- The police have so far arrested 7 people in the matter. 

According to a report, the police team is now questioning the woman doctor, and trying to establish her role in the entire matter.

The police suspect that Dr Shakeel might have links to the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. They are also trying to establish why such a huge amount of explosives was hidden away, so near to the national capital and if there was some blast or such other incident planned. They are also investigating how the explosives, in such a large quantity, managed to be transported so close to Delhi.

According to police, investigations began after posters supporting terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed appeared in Srinagar. This happened on October 27, and police found CCTV footage of a man identified as Adeel Rather putting up these posters. He is also under arrest. This man is also a doctor and was arrested from Saharanpur. He used to work in Government Medical College, Anantnag, till October 2024. However he moved to UP later.
