Former MP ministers daughter, Congress leaders son die in Indore road crash
Prerna Bachchan, daughter of former MP Home Minister Bala Bachchan, tragically died in a car accident near Indore, along with two others. The crash, suspected to involve drunk driving, occurred early Friday morning. They were returning from a birthday party when their vehicle struck a truck. The incident has prompted widespread condolences from political leaders.
New Delhi: In a tragic incident, daughter of Madhya Pradesh MLA and former home minister Bala Bachchan was killed in a road accident close to her residence in Indore in the early hours of Friday.
Prerna Bachchan and three others were travelling in a car that rammed a truck near the Ralamandal area on the Tejaji Nagar bypass, Hindustan Times reported.
Along with Prerna, two other youth instantly died. The deceased have been identified as Prakhar Kasliwal, son of state Congress spokesperson Anand Kasliwal, and Mansindhu, a transporter. Another passenger, Anushka Rathi, suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.
They were coming back from Prakhar's birthday party held in Mhow when their vehicle met with an accident. Deputy police commissioner Krishna Lal Chandani reportedly said that Prakhar was driving under the influence of alcohol, and lost control of the vehicle. The car then hit a truck around 5:15am. Prerna, Prakhar, and Mansindhu died on the spot. Anushka was rushed to the hospital, he added. Prerna was studying for the civil services examinations.
The investigation is ongoing and the truck driver has been taken into police custody. Police said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
Condolences pour in
Taking to X, senior Congress leader and former MP chief minister Kamal Nath called the incident as "heart wrenching". "I have received the heartbreaking news of the demise of my colleague and daughter of former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Shri Bala Bachchan, Prerna, in a road accident in Indore,” he wrote.
Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said, "The untimely demise of Shri Bala Bachchan Ji's daughter, former Home Minister of the Madhya Pradesh Government, in a horrific road accident is extremely heart-wrenching. The sudden departure of the family's daughter in this manner is an irreparable loss for the entire family."
