Tianjin: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Sunday on the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, in a rare bilateral interaction aimed at resetting ties strained by recent border tensions.
This is PM Modi’s first visit to China in seven years. Both leaders used the occasion to stress that India and China—two of the world’s most populous nations—must cooperate rather than compete.
The meeting also came against the backdrop of both countries facing US tariffs under President Donald Trump, a factor pushing Beijing and New Delhi to recalibrate their engagement.
