New Delhi: The Indian Railway has decided to operate more than 12,000 special trains for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja. The Railways has taken the decision to run these special trains in view of the festive rush witnessed each year, during this time.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw speaking at a press conference said that after discussions with Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, MP Sanjay Jaiswal, Union Minister Lalan Singh, and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, it was decided to make special arrangements for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. He emphasized that passengers should also be facilitated during their return journey.
The Minister said that following discussions with senior public representatives, the government had decided to run 12,000 special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja. The minister said that the government will also take care that the passengers do not face any problems in getting tickets during their return journey.
The Union Minister also said that passengers undertaking onward journeys between October 13 to 26 and return journeys between November 17 to December 1, will be given 20 per cent discounts on their return tickets. The initiative is aimed at helping passengers travel smoothly and would benefit thousands of people.
The government has also announced several new trains, especially in the state of Bihar. The state sees a huge rush during the Chhath festival. New Amrit Bharat Express trains will be introduced from Gaya to Delhi, Saharsa to Amritsar, Chhapra to Delhi, and Muzaffarpur to Hyderabad.
A new circuit train, covering important sites related to Lord Buddha will also be launched. This will cover Vaishali, Hajipur, Sonepur, Patna, Rajgir, Gaya and Koderma.
The government also plans to expand the Buxar–Lakhisarai rail section into a 4-line corridor.This will help in more trains operating on this section. A new train will also run between Patna and Ayodhya. Work will also commence on several road overbridges, said the Union Minister.
