New Delhi: The Union government has announced certain changes to the Fasal Bima Yojana, through which crops of farmers of the country are insured. Announcing the changes, Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked the PM and said that now crop loss due to animal attacks and flooding will also be covered under the scheme.
The Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, took to his social media handle, 'X' to inform people about the government's new move. He said, "Today I'm bringing you some good news. To address crop losses due to natural disasters, our Prime Minister, Mr. @narendramodi, has created the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. However 2 losses (loss of crops due to animal attacks and flooding) were not covered in the scheme."
However, Chouhan added that now both these losses have also been added to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. He said that the demand for adding these was being made by farmers for a long time now. He assured farmers that if wild animals destroyed their crops and if they were destroyed due to flooding or waterlogging, even then the government will cover the losses in the Fasal Bima Yojana.
He thanked the PM for agreeing to the farmers' demands and urged farmers across the country to get their crops insured under the Fasal Bima Yojana.
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, aims to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crops as a result of natural calamities, pests & diseases. The government hopes to stabilise the income of farmers to ensure their continuance in farming, through the scheme. It also encourages farmers to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practices.
