Gujarat cabinet rejig: Harsh Sanghavi named deputy CM, Rivaba Jadeja among 26 new ministers
This is the first major cabinet rejig since Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took charge. The oath ceremony was held at 11.45 am at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar.
New Delhi: In a major cabinet reshuffle, the BJP-led Gujarat government on Friday inducted 26 new ministers, including cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Rivaba. Surat MLA Harsh Sanghavi took oath as deputy chief minister. This is the first major cabinet rejig since Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took charge in 2021. The oath ceremony was held at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar.
The new Gujarat cabinet comprises 26 ministers with a mix of experienced ministers and new entrants. The new council of ministers includes seven Patidars, eight OBCs, three SCs, and four STs,. Three women leaders have also found a place in the Gujarat cabinet.
Who all are new faces in Gujarat cabinet?
Besides Rivaba Jadeja, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Rushikesh Patel, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Swaroopji Thakor, Darshna Waghela, Praful Pansheriya, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Arjun Modhwadia, Pravenkumar Mali, Parshottam Solanki, Jitendra Waghani, Harsh Sanghvi and Kanubhai Desai have also been given cabinet berths.
Patel met Governor Acharya Devvrat on Friday morning and sought his permission to hold the swearing-in ceremony of his new cabinet members. On Thursday, all 16 ministers except Chief Minister Patel had tendered their resignation.
The new cabinet list was finalised during a meeting between BJP national president JP Nadda and Patel at the Chief Minister's residence at the Gandhinagar Circuit House late Thursday night. Gujarat BJP chief Jagdish Vishwakarma and general secretary Ratnakar were also present at the late-night meeting.
The cabinet reshuffle comes ahead of the 2026 local elections and the 2027 Assembly polls.
