New Delhi: In a shocking accident reported from Gujarat's Bilimora city, a joyride turned ugly as it collapsed mid air. The accident left at least 10 people injured, including the operator of the swing, who was crushed underneath the structure. The ride collapsed from a height of 20 feet, said reports.
In total 10 people were injured in the accident, 5 of them seriously. Eyewitnesses said that the swing went up to a height of 40 feet and was slowly coming down, when it suddenly collapsed. There were at least 10 people in that swing at the time of the accident.
Eyewitnesses said that the ride collapsed from at least 20 feet and left the people seriously injured. The injured included the ride operator who was on the ground. He was crushed under the swing. The 5 people who were seriously injured included 2 women, 2 children and 1 man.
The accident caused panic among the people. The entire incident was caught on camera and the video has since gone viral. The injured were rushed to hospital. The ride operator who was grievously injured has been moved to a hospital in Surat.
The police have launched an investigation into the accident. The management of the fair has come under criticism following the accident. They have been accused of gross negligence by the locals.
A similar ride malfunction happened in Saudi Arabia's Taif in July this year. The ride malfunctioned and broke into 2 pieces. The accident left 23 people injured. The accident was reported from Green Mountain Park in the Al Hada area of Taif. Three people had suffered serious injuries in this accident.
