Haryana student stabbed to death in UK, accused released on bail

A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana, identified as Vijay Kumar Sheoran, died after being stabbed in Worcester, UK, on November 25. West Mercia Police said he was found with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed in hospital. Five men arrested on suspicion of murder have been released on bail as the investigation continues.

New Delhi: A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana was fatally stabbed in Worcester, United Kingdom, on November 25, West Mercia Police said in a statement. Officers found him on Barbourne Road with life-threatening injuries and rushed him to a hospital, where he died the same day.

The victim has been identified as Vijay Kumar Sheoran of Charkhi Dadri. MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan confirmed the identity, stating that the young man hailed from Jagrambas village.

Police said five men, between ages 22 and 35, were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later bailed as the inquiry progressed. "Five men were arrested on suspicion of murder and are now on bail as the investigation continues,” the force said. A sixth man was also arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released with no further action.

Media reports suggest Vijay had resigned from a government job with the Central Board of Excise and Customs earlier this year to study in the UK and was enrolled at the University of the West of England in Bristol. These claims could not be independently verified.

Family appeals for help

His family has appealed for swift diplomatic intervention to ensure a thorough investigation and to facilitate the return of his body to India.

MLA Sangwan expressed grief on X, saying Vijay died after a "brutal stabbing incident” in Worcester. He urged the Centre to step in "at the earliest and extend every possible support to the grieving family—especially by ensuring the urgent repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”

Calling for accountability, he added, "We also appeal for a transparent, fair, and time-bound investigation so that justice is served and the perpetrators are held strictly accountable.”

Sangwan also conveyed condolences, noting, "We stand firmly with them in this unbearable moment of grief.”
