He could have survived: Son of Delhi BMW crash victim questions hospital choice
The son of finance ministry official Navjot Singh, who died in the Delhi Cantt BMW crash, alleged his father could have survived if taken to a nearby superspeciality hospital instead of a facility 19 km away. Police added evidence-tampering charges.
New Delhi: Delhi Police have added Section 238A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to destruction and concealment of evidence, to the FIR registered in connection with the fatal BMW crash near Delhi Cantonment.
The accident site was about 19 kilometre from Nulife Hospital in Mukherjee Nagar, where the victims were taken. The accused allegedly bypassed several nearby superspeciality hospitals and instead chose the private facility, which is said to be linked to an acquaintance of theirs.
'My father could have been saved'
Navnoor Singh, son of deceased Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh, said his father's life could have been saved if he had been taken to a well-equipped hospital closer to Dhaula Kuan.
"The accident happened around 1 or 1.30 pm. A woman driving a BMW hit my parents' motorcycle. They were taken 19 km away to a hospital with no facilities. My father was declared dead there, but doctors said immediate death after an accident is rare. There are superspeciality hospitals nearby, including AIIMS, if he had been taken there, he could have been saved," he told ANI.
FIR registered under various sections of BNS
Police said an FIR was registered under Sections 281, 125B, 105 and 238A of the BNS. Forensic and crime teams inspected the accident site along with the vehicles involved, a blue BMW and the motorcycle.
The accused woman driver and her husband, who police said run a business making horse leather saddles, seats, covers and belts, remain admitted in the same hospital. "Further investigation is on," Delhi Police said in a statement.
Meanwhile, video footage from inside Nulife Hospital has surfaced. The victim's family has alleged that false information was used to prepare the medico-legal case (MLC) report of the BMW driver, and that the report itself was prepared without proper medical examination.
