IMD predicts heavy rains in North and West India, hill states to see another wet spell

Monsoon hit India earlier than usual this year. The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha between July 2 to July 8. Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand will receive heavy rainfall over isolated places between July 2 to July 6.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains for several parts of the country. Rains are expected in North India, Central India and even in the western parts of the country. The monsoon has arrived in India, a bit earlier than expected and several states in the country are already witnessing rainfall.

The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha between July 2 to July 8. Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand will receive heavy rainfall over isolated places between July 2 to July 6.

Chhattisgarh and Odisha are expected to receive very heavy rainfall on July 2, July 5 and July 6. Very heavy rains are also expected to hit Madhya Pradesh between July 2 to July 6.

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rains in many places in the region, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for the next 7 days.

Northwest India

IMD also predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in East Rajasthan on July 2. Similarly parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Haryana and Chandigarh will receive heavy rains from July 2 to July 8.

Rains are also expected in Eastern Uttar Pradesh between July 2 to July 6 and Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh from July 5 to July 8. Parts of West Rajasthan are expected to see heavy rains on July 3-4.

Rains are expected in Jammu between July 5 to July 8. Very heavy rainfall is predicted for Himachal Pradesh between July 5 to July 7, Punjab and Haryana on July 6-7. Light to moderate rains are expected to hit all these states for the next 7 days. Rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms and winds which will be between 30-40 kmph.

West India

Heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected at isolated places over Konkan and Goa. The ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat will also witness heavy rainfall in the coming days. The IMD said that these regions, apart from Saurashtra and Gujarat will receive heavy rains for the coming 7 days.

Northeast and South India

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places in the North East. Thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Northeast India for the next 7 days. Isolated heavy rains are expected to hit Meghalaya on July 5-6, according to the weather department.

Isolated heavy rains are expected in Kerala and Mahe between July 2 to July 5 and Karnataka between July 2 to July 8. Strong surface winds, reaching up to 40-50 kmph is likely over South Peninsular India during the next 7 days.

The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at some places over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka and Telangana.
