In UP, mother allegedly facilitates son's murder for Rs 33 lakh insurance, illicit affair

New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, a shocking incident has taken place that is bound to send shivers down our spine. There, a mother facilitated the murder of her own for an insurance claim of Rs 33 lakh and an illicit relationship.

It may sound like a fictional crime story, but unfortunately, the incident has taken place in reality. The woman had her lover murder her son and dump the body on the highway to make the incident appear like an accident. When the police apprehended the accused after a shootout, the truth came to light.

This incident happened in Angadpur Baraur village, Kanpur Dehat. The body of 23-year-old Pradeep Sharma, a resident of the village, was found in suspicious circumstances on October 27 along the Auraiya-Kanpur Highway. Initially, it looked like he did in a road accident. But the post-mortem report and probe led the police to suspect that the youth was murdered.

The police, during the probe, found shocking things. Pradeep's grandfather, Jagdish Narayan, filed a complaint accusing Rishi Katiyar, alias Reshu, and his brother, Mayank, alias Manish, of kidnapping and murder. The police registered a case and began searching for them. On Tuesday night, the police encountered the two accused near Durvasha Ashram, Nigohi. Rishi was shot in the leg, and both brothers were arrested.

During interrogation, they revealed that Pradeep's mother, Mamta, had an illicit relationship with Manish. Pradeep discovered this relationship and opposed it, which irked the mother. Meanwhile, Pradeep had four insurance policies in his name, for Rs 4 lakh, Rs 6 lakh, Rs 8 lakh, and Rs 15 lakh. Driven by the greed for the insurance money, the mother, along with her boyfriend Manish, hatched a plan to murder Pradeep.

On October 27, the two brothers took Pradeep to Mungisapur in their car. On the way, they strangled him to death and dumped his body on the Auraiya-Kanpur highway to make it look like a road accident. ASP Rajesh Pandey said that Rishi Katiyar already has several criminal cases registered against him in Jhansi and Baraur. He said that the role of Pradeep's mother has also become clear in the investigation. Hence, the police will take her into custody and interrogate her.
