Indian Army secures patent for AI-based automatic target classifying system

The Indian Army has secured a patent for an AI-powered automatic target classifying system developed in-house by Colonel Kuldeep Yadav. The technology can autonomously detect and identify radar targets, marking a step towards technological self-reliance under the Atmanirbharta initiative.

New Delhi: The Indian Army has been granted a patent for its in-house innovation,  the Automatic Target Classifying System based on Artificial Intelligence, a technology designed to autonomously identify and classify targets on radar without human intervention.

Announcing the development on X, the Army said, “IndianArmy has been successfully granted a patent for its in-house innovation — ‘Automatic Target Classifying System based on Artificial Intelligence’. This innovative solution will autonomously identify and classify targets on radar without the need for human intervention, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.”

The system has been developed by Colonel Kuldeep Yadav, whose work the Army highlighted as an example of its renewed focus on indigenous innovation. “The innovation developed by Colonel Kuldeep Yadav reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering the spirit of innovation, strengthening technological self-reliance and promoting #Atmanirbharta in the defence domain,” the statement added.

The AI-driven tool is expected to improve battlefield situational awareness by reducing the time needed to detect and categorize threats, thereby enabling quicker and more accurate operational decisions.
