India’s first bullet trains to run by August 2027, says Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that India’s long-awaited bullet train project will be operational by August 2027. The high-speed rail network, being built with advanced construction methods, is progressing at a rapid pace.

Speaking at the Jefferies India Forum 2025, Vaishnaw shared a video on X showcasing the progress of the project. He highlighted that nearly all river crossings and bridge works have been completed using cutting-edge technology. “Entire 1,100-tonne structures are lifted and placed on pillars in one go. This technology has been developed indigenously, and it has set a benchmark for the world,” he said.

The minister emphasised that the bullet train corridor has been built without disrupting traffic, making it one of the safest and most efficient infrastructure projects. Japanese engineers, who inspected the work, reportedly praised the innovations and expressed interest in adopting some of the techniques in their own future projects.

India has set an ambitious target of building 7,000 km of high-speed rail corridors across the country. The first corridor, connecting Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai, is expected to be ready by 2027.

“This is not just about speed,” Vaishnaw said. “It’s about bringing world-class safety, efficiency, and technology to Indian railways.”
