Mohali: In a shocking incident, Rana Balachauri aka Kanwar Digvijay Singh, a Kabaddi promoter, was shot dead while he was participating at the four-day Kabaddi in Mohali on Monday. The assailants had approached him on the pretext of taking a selfie.
As per eyewitnesses, the assailants had specifically targeted Balachauri. After committing the crime, the accused fired in the air and escaped the spot, leading to chaos in the stadium. The police soon arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident.
A case has been filed in the incident and the police is on the lookout to nab those who are behind the incident. The victim was admitted to a hospital, where he was declared dead after undergoing treatment for gunshots.
Taking responsibility for the crime, the Bambiha gang members took to social media and claimed that the deceased had supported the killers of Sidhu Moosewala. They claimed to have taken revenge by killing Balachauri. Singer Mankirt Aulakh was also expected to attend the match, but the attack occurred about half an hour before his arrival.
A social media post attributed to Gopi Ghanshyampuria of the Bambiha gang reads: "The post claiming responsibility for the attack states: 'We, Donibal, Saganpreet, Mohabbat Randhawa, Amar Khabbe, Prabhdaswal, and Kaushal Chaudhary, take responsibility for the murder of Rana Balachauria at the Kabaddi Cup in Mohali today. This man (Rana) was associated with our enemies Jaggu and Lawrence. “
“He provided shelter to Sidhu Moosewala's killers and took care of them. By killing Rana today, we have avenged the murder of our brother Sidhu Moosewala. This act was carried out by our brothers Makhan Amritsar and Defaulter Karan. Furthermore, we request all players and their parents from today onwards not to play in Jaggu and Harry's team. Otherwise, they will face similar consequences. We have no problem with Kabaddi itself. We just don't want any interference in Jaggu and Harry's Kabaddi. Wait and watch,” the post added further.
Informing of Balachauri’s death, the Fortis Hospital issued a statement saying,“We are deeply saddened to confirm that Mr. Kanwar Digvijay Singh, a 30-year-old Kabaddi player, was brought to Fortis Hospital Mohali at 6:05 PM on 15th December 2025 with gunshot injuries. Despite immediate clinical assessment, he was declared brought dead. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
