23-year-old file sexual assault complaint against Rahul Mamkoottathil
According to the police, the complaint states: "Rahul used to text her saying he wished to marry her. After repeated proposals, she told her parents about the matter. Initially reluctant, they finally agreed when Rahul became the Youth Congress state president."
Thiruvananthapuram: Complaints continue to mount against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil after a 23-year-old woman has filed a sexual assault complaint against suspended Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil.
The new complaint comes when the anticipatory bail plea of the MLA is coming for hearing in the sessions court on December 3.
The new allegation comes days after a sexual assault complaint was filed against him with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
In the latest complaint, a 23-year-old woman has alleged that Mamkootathil sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage.
According to the police, the complaint states: "Rahul used to text her saying he wished to marry her. After repeated proposals, she told her parents about the matter. Initially reluctant, they finally agreed when Rahul became the Youth Congress state president."
"He, however, wanted to meet her before meeting her family. He then took her to a homestay-like building and sexually assaulted her despite her protests. She also stated that she suffered injuries due to the incident," the police said.
Earlier, a sexual assault complaint was filed against Mamkootathil after an alleged audio recording of a conversation between the woman and the MLA surfaced online.
The woman met the Kerala Chief Minister at his office in Thiruvananthapuram and submitted the complaint. The complaint was forwarded to the State Police Chief for further action. Reacting to the development, the Palakkad MLA said he would fight the case legally.
Mamkootathil was suspended from the Congress in August following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Replying to questions on the latest complaint, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan said: "The person has been suspended from our party. We will give full cooperation to the police. It is the duty of the police to catch him."
"An email containing the complaint was received by the party president. He forwarded the complaint to the DGP and also replied to the woman, informing her about it," he added.
