After a gap of 2 years, TVM to host three international cricket matches

The Greenfield Stadium at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram will host the last three matches of a five-match series with Lanka. Visakhapatnam will host the first two matches on December 21 and 23. The matches in Thiruvananthapuram are scheduled for December 26, 28 and 30.

Thiruvananthapuram: International cricket matches are back to Thiruvananthapuram after a gap of two years. This time around the capital city of Kerala will be hosting three matches of the woman’s T20.

Kerala have got three matches in a row as the BCCI on Friday announced Thiruvananthapuram as the venue for India's home series against Sri Lanka in women's T20Is this December.

Kerala cricket association welcomed the decision by the BCCI and said that the matches will further bring more confidence and cheer among the lakhs of cricket fans who are always looking forward for matches to be hosted in their home towns and cities.

“This is indeed a great step forward for Kerala cricket and the fans. Not just that it will be bring revenue to the sports association, these matches once conducted will help bringing more matches in the coming years. We are already into talks with senior members of the BCCI on this”, said Suresh, a member of the Kerala Cricket Association.

Interestingly, Thiruvananthapuram had missed out on hosting matches in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup held in September-November. The lack of direct flights between Thiruvananthapuram and the other venues was cited as the reason for Kerala missing out on the World Cup.

Thiruvananthapuram has yet to host an international women's match, though it has witnessed four T20Is and two ODIs between 2018 and 2023. The last match played at the venue was a T20I between India and Australia on November 26, 2023, which the hosts won by 44 runs.
