BJP Kasaragod president Ashwini's Facebook post exposes discontent within the party ahead of polls

Even though Ashwini had stated that the post was a general reflection of the society and has nothing to do with her views in the party, the timing of the post had been interpreted by political observers as growing dissent within the BJP in north Kerala.

Kasaragod – Fissures within the BJP state unit was reflected in a Facebook when Kasaragod district president Ashwini ML who made a veiled attack allegedly against co-party workers where she remarked that there is “attempt to clip her wings”. The comments had brought simmering discontentment within the party out in open weeks after the local body elections.

Even though Ashwini had stated that the post was a general reflection of the society and has nothing to do with her views in the party, the timing of the post had been interpreted by political observers as growing dissent within the BJP in north Kerala.

“Jealous enemies, disguised as well-wishers, unable to bear a woman’s growth, try to hinder her growth. Her achievements pain them, her self-confidence burns them like fire, even then she does not stop”, her Facebook post read.

Ashwin clarified that the post was not meant against any leaders or members in the party.

As per party top sources, Ashwini groomed as a future Manjeshwaram candidate. Even though her politics is mostly rooted in Hindutva politics, her statements and speeches till date was more composed and has not courted any controversy.

A section of leaders in north Kerala have voiced a different view on the candidature in Manjeshwaram, an assembly seat which the BJP has a very strong presence in Kerala. Sources within the party are of the view that a senior leader who has at-least 20 plus years of organizational experience in Kerala must be fielded from Manjeshwaram.

“We are looking for an already senior leader who knows the grass root politics in the region and not anyone from outside”, said Mohanan, a BJP leader from Kannur.
