Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking and bizarre incident reported from Kasaragod, a class 10 boy’s eardrum was ruptured after the school headmaster slapped him. The incident led to protests from student organizations following which the education minister has ordered for a probe.
Education Minister V Sivankutty has ordered a probe following a complaint of alleged physical assault on a Class 10 boy at Kundamkuzhi GHSS in Kasaragod. According to the complaint, the child’s eardrum was ruptured after the school headmaster slapped him. The incident happened on August 11.
"I have ordered for a detailed probe into the incident. Once report submitted action will be taken", said the minister while speaking to the media.
On Monday, BJP and Congress activists staged a protest march to the school over the assault.
Responding to the incident, Minister Sivankutty said that cruelty towards students on school campuses would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against teachers involved in such cases.
According to the boy’s mother, headmaster Ashok slapped the boy on August 11. When questioned, the headmaster told her that he punished the boy for a disciplinary violation during the school assembly. She also told the regional media houses that her son suffered partial hearing loss in his right ear and doctors had advised surgery.
