Journalist Shajan Skariah assaulted in Thodupuzha ; DYFI activists behind the attack, he alleges
Shajan who spoke exclusively to News 9 from the hospital where he is admitted said that he was attacked by DYFI activists on Saturday evening while he was on his way to a wedding ceremony of his close friend in Idukki.
Idukki: In a shocking incident reported from the hilly town of Thodupuzha, Shajan Skariah, one of the well known journalist who is also the editor in chief of ‘Marunadan Malayali’, an online news portal was assaulted in public by a gang of three people and was hospitalized.
Shajan who spoke exclusively to News 9 from the hospital where he is admitted said that he was attacked by DYFI activists on Saturday evening while he was on his way to a wedding ceremony of his close friend in Idukki.
"I attended a wedding ceremony here in Thodupuzha where there was a large crowd. I saw people clicking my photos. Then while I was moving to the church along with the family members in a convoy, a vehicle that was following me blocked my vehicle, pulled me out and assaulted me. The hit on my chest and face continuously. Blood was spilled out of my nose and head. They said they will kill me. It was DYFI activists who were behind the attack”, said Shajan to News9 in a low voice.
A complaint was filed and a case has been registered under BNS section 189(2), 190, 191(1), 191(2), 191(3), 115(2), 351(2), 126(2), 110 for assaulting with the intention to kill a person.
The senior journalist while speaking to News9 further added that he would pursue the case in full fledge once he is out of the hospital.
Meanwhile, journalists from the online media circles condemned the attack and termed it atrocious and shocking. Many demanded stringent action against the perpetrators.
As per Thodupuzha police, a group of unidentified men followed Shajan and attacked him leaving him injured. Police said that the matter will be investigated in detail once Shajan is discharged and moved out of the hospital.
Shajan Skariah who is a well known media person in the online media space had been targetted earlier on multiple occasions by adversaries who had allegedly been unhappy with the news articles of Marunadan Malayali.
