Kerala custodial torture cases: DGP Ravada Chandrasekhar assures stringent action against officials if found guilty

The Kerala Police Department has come under fire after visuals of a Youth Congress worker's custodial torture surfaced. The Youth Congress is staging statewide protests against the police over the incident. Amid the protest, numerous people came forward sharing their horric experiences at various police stations.

Thiruvananthapuram: As complaints pour in from various quarters against police officials for indulging in custodial torture with videos emerging, the Kerala Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar stated that complaints against the concerned officials will be thoroughly examined and necessary action will be taken against those found guilty.

"Many complaints are received against police officials. The department is considering each with utmost seriousness. I’m sure people have faith in the police. They don’t need to panic. Police are part of society. We do respect each citizen,” said the DGP.

The DGP assured strict action against the cops involved in custodial torture incidents. He added that an IG-rank official is investigating the controversial Kunnamkulam custodial torture case.

He added that the Chief Minister has also ordered strict action against officials over complaints of custodial torture.

"The Kunnamkulam custodial torture case is under probe. Disciplinary action was taken against the cops immediately. Complaints against DySP Madhu Babu are being examined. Necessary action will be taken over each complaint related to police atrocities as per the law,” asserted the DGP.

Meanwhile, 10 complaints of extreme custodial torture leading to grievous injuries have been reported from various corners of the state raising serious concerns of the conduct of police officials in the state.

Congress leader K Muraleedharan and Ramesh Chennithala has slammed Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan alleging that the police officials have been given a free hand which is being widely misused by the personnel.

Congress party have been holding protests across the state against the government and near the houses of the accused policemen.
