Kerala local body poll dates announced; Polling on December 9th and 11th, counting on 13th
Kerala's upcoming local body elections will see 2.84 crore voters choosing representatives to 941 grama panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 14 district panchayats, 86 municipalities, and six corporations.
Thiruvananthapuram: The suspense over local body polls are finally over with state election commission declaring the poll dates. As expected the elections will be conducted in 2 phases. First phase will be conducted on December 9 where polls will be conducted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Idukki.
The second phase will be conducted on December 11 where the polls will be happening in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
The counting of votes will be happening on December 13.

LDF leads in the current scenario across all wards and municipalities
Currently LDF also governs 571 grama panchayats, 113 block panchayats, and 11 district panchayats, while the UDF controls 351 grama panchayats, 38 blocks, and three districts (Ernakulam, Wayanad, and Malappuram).
The NDA leads in 12 gram panchayats, and Independents in seven.
Among 87 municipalities, the LDF governs 44, the UDF 41, and the BJP two -- Palakkad and Pandalam.
The election, viewed as a prelude to the 2026 Assembly polls, will test the LDF’s hold and the UDF’s revival prospects, while the BJP seeks to expand its urban footprint.
Polling involves 23,576 wards (excluding the 36 wards of the Mattannur municipality, where elections are due in 2027). Political parties, including the BJP, have already begun announcing their candidates for the polls. Nominations can be filed until November 21, with the scrutiny of papers on November 22
